Looking for a good reliable baitcast freshwater fishing reel in the $75 - $100 range any pro/cons advice.?
First, I have to tell you that Shimano makes the most reliable baitcasters at the moment. Daiwa is runner-up, but their drags will fade and under-perform over time. If you're not putting in heavy use, then the issue will not present itself until far down the road.
Second, Shimano has a rebate program going on right now that is pretty darn good. If you can afford another $50, then you can buy the Curado, a GREAT!!! reel for ($200-50 rebate = $150) This reel will last you a lifetime, guaranteed. If you can't shell out the extra money, then I would go with the Shimano Citica ($120-30 rebate = $90) That's a very good reel for that price.
I also like the Daiwa baitcasters with the MagForceZ feature. Cabelas Prodigy reel is actually the same (minus the name) as the Team Daiwa Advantage. Daiwa is only producing the HST (supertuned) version now, so it may be a little harder to get one of the prior models online. But I'm sure a local tackle shop will have it though. They run $90-100.
(If you're really looking to only spend about $50-75, then I would reccommend a Cabelas Tournament ZX HS...on sale right now. Or an Abu Garcia Black Max...both are decent for the price.)
