Whats the best way to fish a flutter spoon for bass?
I just started fishing a lake fork style flutter spoon here in michigan where it hasn't really caught on yet. I have been having spotty success with some really nice fish. one day they are on it real good and then the next day my luck will change. it seems to work better in windy conditions for me. do you use more of a sweeping action or are you snapping it off the bottom? i have been snapping and ripping it off the bottom and letting it fall back down on slack line. this was the only way i was taught to fish it when i was down on kentucky lake, however there is not much information on the internet about how to fish the spoon. can anyone give me some pointers? thanks.
I have found that doodling them on deep structure where you bring them off the bottom fairly quickly and then let it cascade back and forth as it falls to be where I have used them most successfully. It's tricky because the fish definitely hit it on the fall so line watching is an absolute must. I caught quite a few while moving it fairly quickly through hydrilla, keeping it fairly close to the water top and reeling it quickly only to stop the retrieve for a one second count (moving my rod tip to the opposite side during every stop) and then reeling again always changing the reeling count up to make it a completely sporadic effect on the bass. I am pretty sure though that by changing it's direction on the stop was the little extra movement the spoon needed to get hit. I am pretty sure near to the surface It never worked in the sun like it does in cloudy conditions.
