Do you share the same fear of China becoming a superpower?
They have tendency to disrespect laws and cultures of other countries. Many Chinese produce pirated products----DVD, fake clothes, etc. Some of their fishermen go to my country's shores and practice illegal fishing and keep on coming back and kill even the endangered marine animals.
Yep. China has one of the worst records on civil, political and religious rights in the world.
For example, Tibet deserves to be a independent country as it is culturally and linguistically quite different from anything Chinese, and historically has at most been an ocassional vassal to China, and yet China invaded it early the Maoist era and has since claimed it to be part of the Chinese homeland. To make it more interesting, China recently made it law that no one could be the reincarnation of anything important without state approval... so China will choose future Dalai Lamas.
Next, most Chinese businesses are completely lacking in ethics. Those in charge of companies that produce lethal products - like anti-freeze containing toothpaste, tarnished pet food, fake medicine, faulty toys ets. - are routinely proud of the fact that they "outsmarted" the west in selling these products. That is, the west is being stupid for assuming that toothpaste is anti-freeze-free and that they are smart for figuring out how to sell dangerous products to make more money.
Next, China has a horribly unilateral trade policy. For example, in order for a foreign company to operate in China, it needs to have a "local partner." This local partner usually steels all of the ideas and manufacuring techniques from the foreign firm and the Chinese government will often kick out the foreign firm or put increasing beauracratic pressure or taxes on the foreign firm until it leaves, once the "local partner" has established itself. China also maintains strict control over its currency which makes the Yuan artificially week and thereby making Chinese exports artificially strong.
China has a horrible environmental track record. They hunt rhinos, bears and tigers all around the world to use one or two organs to make Chinese "medicine." They have also endangered sea-horses by catching them and using them as a form of Viagra. They routinely hunt sharks just for the fins for their soup. They are the main patrons of elephant poaching and ivory sales. They are also they main culprits for massive deforestation in countries ranging from Indonesia to Cameroon.
Next, there is their foreign policy. China has absolutely so ethical qualms, it cares only for face and money. China has maintained very strong relations with Iran and Sudan simply to get cheap oil. In fact, China is the very country that provided arms and money to the horrible Sudanese government that has been slaughtering its people, to insure access to oil reserves in south Sudan.
So, all in all, China is one of the worst countries on earth right now, and is worsening life for nearly everyone. But unfortunately, people are too easily placated by cheap socks to get outraged by the real situation. Furthermore, China has accumulated such a large trade surplus with the US that it can use that as political leverage - if they were to dump their stocks of US dollars, it would lead to large-scale economic decline in the US. Hence, even global leaders are weak in containing this Chinese menace.
I see no good to come out of China.

The lustrous cinematography is beautifully portrayed here, betraying the fact that the episodes were shot on video, not filmed. There's a great deal of outdoorsy nature imagery that the DVD must convey, and it's an impressive feat that everything looks so good. You'll almost feel that you're there with Lurie and his guests (including Willem Dafoe, Jim Jarmusch, Tom Waits, Matt Dillon, and Dennis Hopper) as they goof around, traversing exotic locales around the world and pretending that they have the slightest idea what they're doing. The sound quality is excellent, with narrator Robb Webb's hilarious comments crystal clear in Dolby Digital. John Lurie's minimalist, art-jazz score also sounds pristine, and Lurie's commentary, available as a second audio track, is as funny as the episodes themselves. Rounding out the package is "Big Heart," a blast from the past in the form of a Lounge Lizards music video.
